Joe Mcquillan


Joe completed his bachelor of medical science in Orthoptics at the University of Sheffield in 2006. Following this he worked at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital gaining experience in a wide range of clinics including paediatric visual impairment and complex ocular motility.

He has been working at the Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s for 7 years and was appointed Head Orthoptist in 2011. During his time at the Royal London he has helped develop the specialist services provided for patients with special needs, hearing impairment, Down’s syndrome, Adults with learning difficulties and patient’s with complex neurological and facial trauma.

Joe has recently had a chapter published in an atlas and a manual of operative maxillofacial trauma surgery and has co-authored a journal paper on neuro-oculomyotonia. Joe is passionate about orthoptics and the treatment of children’s eye conditions.
